Facebook Maintenance: Edit Options

UPDATE September 2012:

If you are finding this post via a search, know that the original post was dated in Feb 2011. Now, the “edit options” field is now at the top right hand corner of the newsfeed. You can sort between MOST RECENT and TOP STORIES. Try this, everyone. The options are no longer at the bottom of the screen.

Facebook changed their design slightly. If you’ve been thinking that only a few people out of your long list of “friends” on Facebook update regularly, you are probably mistaken. Facebook has changed the newsfeed to show only the people and pages you’ve interacted with recently. You need to go into Edit Options at the very bottom of the newsfeed (scroll all the way down), click “Edit Options” (at the bottom right in blue ink in the newsfeed footer) and use the pulldown menu to choose “All My Friends and Pages.” Voila! You may now resume your stalking. 🙂

The question is, how does this apply to Facebook Fan pages. I seem to be having the same problem there, and can’t find the corresponding instructions to fix it. One person had a suggestion, but it seems to only work for old style fan pages.

As an aside, someone wrote a note about this on Facebook, which I shared and then people commented on, only to see the note disappear, along with the comments.

The note was critical of Facebook, and it seems as if Facebook doesn’t tolerate criticism on their site. Maybe Mubarek should have used Facebook.

Hrm. I posted this today on FB so we’ll see if it stays.

I don’t know about the fan pages, but if I find anything I’ll let you know.

Thanks! I’d hate to miss updates from friends that rarely post. Unlike ones that post everyday like me. Haha

Is there any other way to get to that menu???? My page won’t stop loading & I can’t click that link!!!???????

    • PurpleCar 26 July 2012, 7:34 am

When pages won’t stop loading, it’s likely that your browser needs to be shut down and restarted. Perhaps even your whole computer rebooted. There are processes in the background that can affect that. Try those things and get back to me. We’ll think of something else if that doesn’t work, like wandering around in your account settings. Facebook changes the menus all the time.

They don’t mean ‘won’t stop loading’ in the way you are referring to- they mean the page continually loads additional content, and older posts, EVERY time you scroll to the bottom of the page- thus, making your solution of clicking ‘edit options’ invalid, since you can NEVER click it.

On the left hand side, at the top, you see where it says NEWSFEED?
Under Favorites?  If you hover your mouse just to the left, a little
pencil appears, click on that and then select Edit Settings.  This will
get you your list of people that you have blocked.  It drove me nuts not
being able to get my newsfeed to stop scrolling new stuff.  I never get
          the “older posts” part either.

“Facebook has changed the newsfeed to show only the people and pages you’ve interacted with recently. You need to go into Edit Options at the very bottom of the newsfeed (scroll all the way down), click “Edit Options” BUT I can’t click on Edit Options because it keeps disappearing. Every time I go to the bottom of the page the newsfeed refreshes with more posts. How can I get to this button??

    • PurpleCar 9 August 2012, 9:41 am

Well, now the SORT button is at the very top right hand corner of the news feed. There is a pull down button with two choices: Most Recent and Top Stories. Change it to Most Recent.

Hi, I don’t get the option to show post from my friends, only apps? What have I done wrong? FB is getting getting too hard to deal with this just about puts the last nail in the coffin for me continuing to use it.

    • PurpleCar 27 November 2012, 10:58 pm

What do you see when you log on? Your News Feed? That should be the default page you see. Go to the left column and click News Feed. Then go to the top of the middle column where all the posts are and look for the pulldown menu and change it to MOST RECENT.
Try that and let me know if you see any friends’ posts in the stream.

I see posts but only from part of my friends list. When I search the missing people off my friends list I am asked if I want to friend them. I haven’t delete any of these friends but thats what looks to have happened. Thanks for the help.
